Second Earth Orientation Parameters Prediction Comparison Campaign (2nd EOP PCC): Overview

Abstract Precise positioning and navigation on the Earth’s surface in space require accurate earth orientation parameters (EOP) data predictions. In last few decades, EOP prediction has become a subject of increased attention within international geodetic community, e.g., agencies, satellite operators, researchers studying Earth rotation dynamics, users systems. Due to this fact, many research centres from around world have developed dedicated methods for forecasting EOP. An assessment various capabilities is currently being pursued frame Second Orientation Parameters Prediction Comparison Campaign (2 nd PCC), which began September 2021 will be continued until end year 2022. The new campaign was prepared by PCC Office run Centrum Badań Kosmicznych Polskiej Akademii Nauk (CBK PAN) Warsaw, Poland, cooperation with GeoForschungsZentrum (GFZ) under auspices International Rotation Reference Systems Service (IERS). paper, we provide an overview 2 five months after its start. We discuss technical aspects present statistics about participants valid files received so far. Additionally, results preliminary comparisons different reference solutions respect official IERS 14 C04 series. Root mean square values polar motion, length day, precession-nutation components show discrepancies at level 0.04 0.36 mas, 0.01 0.10 ms, 0.18 respectively.
